Renewal of Vows at Split Apple Rock

The Story

I love a challenge but Margerie certainly took Ian beyond a challenge when she surprised him with a renewal of vows celebration. For those who know the 10 minute track to Split Apple Rock, know its not always the easiest track on a normal day but Ian had been blind-folded since breakfast. She had dressed him in his wedding suit from 10 years previous, which luckily still fitted him, drove him from Kaiteriteri to Split Apple beach car park where he was starting to feel quite sea sick. She then guided him down, still blind-folded along the steep winding track and onto the beach, where I was waiting for them in a circle of gold sand which represented the song by Isla Grant (Circle of Gold) and was playing to serenade them, as they walked toward me. I had added some yellow roses at their feet that represented something very precious to Margerie and Ian and the reason why Margerie had arranged the ceremony to thank Ian for his devoted love and support.

Ian was eventually allowed to take off his blindfold and his first reaction was one of irritation which really worried me, of what was coming next but then he explained he had also arranged something special and didn’t want to continue until he could add that surprise to the mix. This meant a walk back up the track. Luckily my oldest son Peter was with us and offered to run up to collect what he was instructed, returning red faced and puffed out with a beautiful bunch of flowers and an eternity ring. Well, its hard to compose yourself sometimes and I admit I lost a tear or two.

Testimonial

Thank you so much for being so patient and making our day so magical, it was more than we had hoped for. The meal was also lovely and the roses was very touching. Mostly we would like to thank your son Peter, he will certainly have insight in how to treat a lady, with your gentle training.
