Our host Terri Everett was live on Fresh FM radio on 14th November 2018 With Jill Alexandra from Madcat and Puss Puss Historic wedding wear.

Terri and Jill had a wonderful time at the old Anchor Inn where the Madcat Studio is situated in Founder Park in Nelson, which is a heritage site perfect for beautiful wedding and photo shoot.

The studio was the perfect environment to discuss wedding dresses with Jill, who developed the MADCAT design. The studio is home to Jill Alexander’s two labels: MADCAT hand-printed skirts and Jill Alexander Vintage-Inspired Bridal Wear (incorporating Puss Puss historically-inspired corsetry).

Episode 8: Went live on 14th November 2018

Jill has nearly 40 years experience in the fashion industry, after being one of the youngest ever graduates from the Honours program at the famous St. Martins School of Art in London. During her career Jill has been a designer, pattern-cutter and illustrator employed by a number of major fashion companies in England, and a respected fashion educator in New Zealand

The MADCAT workshop houses an electric array of large cutting and textile printing tables and machinery to create the custom Jill Alexander vintage-inspired bridal wear, wedding dresses and Puss Puss historically-inspired corsetry. You are always greeted with a warm welcome when you visit visit the workshop and can see these fabulous creations being made. Of course it is best to have an appointment so that you can have her exclusive attention.

Jill says. “MADCAT is my vision: after years of needing to teach drawing and fashion design I am now free to develop my own dream. I specialise in making artwork into textiles into fashion. I draw, print and make my own textiles into wearable, fashionable skirts. I also like to work on freehand embroidered textiles using the sewing machine as a fine line pen. These pieces of textile art form part of a MADCAT garment or corset.”

A made-to-measure & design service is also available; simply email Jill and she will talk you through the process and how to take your measurements unless you are able to go into the studio by appointment (Mostly Sundays) to discuss your dream dress. You will be amazed how she can take your vision and put it to paper. This is part of the MADCAT service.
